Halloween: The Game Prestige Guide: Requirements, Challenges & Bugs
Prestige begins after you reach the maximum progression level in one of four categories: Profile, Killer, Civilian or Weapon. The game then uses Prestige Challenges to gate the next step, but launch-week bugs made that flow confusing, especially for weapon and profile prestige.

Quick Answer
Prestige is the post-cap progression system for Profile, Killer, Civilian and Weapon Levels. IllFonic says players can prestige after reaching the maximum progression level in any of those four categories to pursue additional rewards. In the live game, that flow surfaces a Prestige Challenge that must be completed before the prestige step can finish.
Patch 1.0.2 re-enabled Prestige Challenges and fixed an issue where having an active Prestige Challenge could block matchmaking. Later on September 11, the developer also corrected a brief problem where Weapon Prestige Challenges populated with missing criteria text and told players to restart the game.
However, community reports continued after the patch, especially for weapon challenge counters staying at 0 and some profile prestige objectives not recognizing the expected target. This page separates the official system from those still-current player reports.

What Can You Prestige?
The official progression overview defines four Player Progression categories:
| Progression category | What earns that level |
|---|---|
| Profile Level | All XP gained regardless of role |
| Killer Level | XP earned while playing Michael / the Killer role |
| Civilian Level | Progress tied to each playable Civilian character |
| Weapon Level | Progress earned by dispatching victims with a specific equipable Michael weapon |
IllFonic says all four categories can be prestiged once their maximum progression level is reached. The official overview does not publish enough detail to safely hard-code every max-level number, reward tier or reset behavior on this page, so the guide avoids inventing values that may differ by category or patch.
How Prestige Works
The reliable high-level flow is:
- Raise the relevant Profile, Killer, Civilian or Weapon progression track to its current maximum.
- Enter the game’s progression / challenge interface for that track.
- Receive or activate the associated Prestige Challenge.
- Complete the exact Prestige Challenge criteria shown in the current build.
- Return to the progression interface and finish the prestige step when the game recognizes completion.
Prestige is therefore not just an XP bar reset. The Challenge gate is part of the live flow, which is why tracking bugs can make a maxed category feel completely stuck.
Normal Passive, Progressive and Story Challenges are covered in the Challenges Guide. Do not assume a normal Progressive weapon challenge is the same thing as a Weapon Prestige Challenge.
Prestige Challenges
Patch 1.0.2 is the key reference point. IllFonic explicitly:
- re-enabled Prestige Challenges;
- fixed an issue where an active Prestige Challenge prevented matchmaking;
- later corrected a short-lived issue where Weapon Prestige Challenges appeared without proper text;
- asked players to restart the game so the corrected criteria would populate.
The developer also acknowledged that some challenge objectives are unclear, even when they are technically completable. That means a confusing Prestige objective can be one of three things:
- a wording problem;
- a local client state that needs a restart;
- an actual tracking bug.
Do not assume repeated attempts with random actions will solve it. Preserve the exact challenge text, progress counter and category before testing.
Weapon Prestige
Weapon Prestige has generated the most consistent post-1.0.2 complaints. In current Steam discussions, players report challenges such as executing victims with a specific weapon remaining at 0 progress even after trying the named weapon execution and other kill types. Other players in the same discussions say some Civilian or Michael prestige tracks work while a weapon track does not.
That is important because official documentation says Weapon Level itself is tied to dispatching victims with a specific equipable weapon. If a Prestige Challenge names a weapon, use that exact weapon and the exact action described; switching to a generic Michael kill can make troubleshooting less clear.
As of the last check for this page, the safest wording is:
Weapon Prestige Challenges were re-enabled, but players are still reporting isolated tracking failures after 1.0.2.
This is not proof that every Weapon Prestige challenge is broken for every account or platform.
Prestige Not Working: What to Try
Use this order before assuming your account is permanently stuck:
- Confirm you are at the max progression level for the exact category you want to prestige.
- Restart the game. IllFonic specifically required a restart after the September 11 criteria-text fix.
- Read the current Prestige Challenge literally. Match the named character, weapon, target type or action.
- Do not mix categories. Profile, Killer, Civilian and Weapon Prestige can surface different requirements.
- Complete a full valid match where practical. Some counters may post at match resolution rather than the instant an action occurs.
- Capture evidence before retrying. Screenshot the challenge text, progress before/after, platform and the exact action performed.
- Check the latest patch notes. Prestige was actively changing during launch week and older forum workarounds can become obsolete quickly.
If the challenge is a normal Passive/Progressive/Story objective rather than Prestige, use the Challenges Guide.
Prestige Timer / Retry State
Some players report seeing a roughly day-long timer or being unable to request another Prestige Challenge after a failed or bugged attempt. Community posts describe states around 23–24 hours, but IllFonic’s public progression overview and 1.0.2 notes do not define a universal fixed cooldown in enough detail to present that number as an official rule.
So if the UI shows a timer:
- follow the timer actually displayed by your client;
- restart once before assuming the timer is stale;
- avoid claiming a universal 24-hour rule across all categories;
- if the timer remains after a challenge that clearly failed to track, include it in a support report.
The important distinction is that a visible retry state is different from an XP requirement. More XP will not necessarily clear a bugged active Prestige Challenge.
FAQ
When can I Prestige?
Officially, after reaching the maximum progression level in one of the four progression categories: Profile, Killer, Civilian or Weapon.
Why is my Prestige Challenge not appearing?
Patch 1.0.2 re-enabled Prestige Challenges, and IllFonic later fixed a brief criteria-population issue. Restart the game first, then confirm the relevant progression track is actually at its cap.
Why is Weapon Prestige stuck at 0?
That is still being reported by players after 1.0.2. Use the exact named weapon/action, restart the client, finish a valid match, and document the counter if it does not move.
Does Prestige use the same Challenges as Story Mode?
No. Story, Passive and Progressive Challenges are normal challenge tracks. Prestige Challenges belong to the post-cap Prestige flow.
What is the fastest way to reach Prestige eligibility?
That is an XP/leveling question. See the XP Farming Guide so this page does not duplicate the leveling intent.
