Halloween: The Game vs Dead by Daylight

Both games use a 1v4 asymmetric format, but their objectives, solo options, content packages, progression, and Michael Myers access are structurally different. There is no evidence-supported universal winner.

Quick Answer#

Choose Halloween: The Game if your priority is a dedicated six-chapter Michael Myers story or a multiplayer loop where Civilians warn and escort Haddonfield residents to randomized exits. Choose Dead by Daylight if your priority is its larger cumulative character directory, established Bloodweb/build system, and generator-to-exit-gate match loop.

That is a fit comparison, not a quality ranking. Counts, prices, platform labels, and licence conditions below are tied to the evidence checked on September 8, 2026.

For Halloween-specific details rather than comparison shorthand, use the character roster, crossplay guide, and IGN review-status page.

The DBD base SKU and cumulative directory are different acquisition scopes. A character appearing in the directory is not proof that every base-game buyer receives it without separate purchase or unlock.

Match Objectives#

The shared “1v4” label describes team size, not an identical ruleset.

In Halloween, the Civilian team interacts with NPC Haddonfield residents. Civilians warn them and escort them toward randomized exits, while Michael hunts both the player team and residents. That extra resident layer shapes pathing and priorities beyond simply opening an exit for the four players.

In Dead by Daylight, Survivors repair five of seven generators, which powers the Exit Gates. The Killer searches for Survivors, chases and downs them, carries them to hooks, and attempts to sacrifice them before they escape.

Neither loop is inherently “better.” The deciding question is whether you want a focused Halloween-rescue structure or DBD’s established generator and hook economy.

Solo and Bots#

Halloween includes a six-chapter single-player story with Michael as the player-controlled character. Private matches against AI are separately listed, and “Offline Play” is named in source material, but its full mode and platform scope was not completely established in the retained evidence.

Dead by Daylight supports Tutorial Bot Matches and Custom lobbies with up to four Survivor bots. Those statements do not prove a story campaign or arbitrary Killer-bot support. A platform store’s broad “Single player” label should not replace the narrower, documented bot-mode descriptions.

Content Scope#

Halloween’s Standard launch package confirms Michael, 10 playable Civilians, four multiplayer maps, and the six-chapter story. Digital Deluxe adds Richard Hawthorne and Alexis Purcell. The character guide keeps edition access and immediate selection separate.

DBD needs two labels. Its checked Xbox US base SKU listed seven Killers and nine Survivors. Its broader official directory snapshot contained 42 Killer and 53 Survivor nodes, while the Gameplay page said there were more than 15 maps. The wider directory can include content requiring separate acquisition.

Because the columns use different product scopes, the cumulative DBD figures should not be labeled a direct “base game versus base game” count.

Progression#

Halloween organizes growth around Profile, Killer, Civilian, and Weapon levels, Prestige, challenges, Michael abilities, weapons and executions, plus a Civilian Perk Deck and Perk Points.

DBD uses Bloodpoints and the Bloodweb to obtain Add-Ons, Offerings, and Perks used in character builds. The two systems have different terminology and reward paths; no aligned max-level, grind-time, or value dataset was established.

Michael and Haddonfield#

Halloween: The Game launches around playable Michael and its six-chapter Haddonfield story.

DBD’s Halloween licence changed on January 19, 2026 at 11:00 AM ET. After that cutoff, new users could no longer purchase or newly unlock The Shape or Laurie Strode. Existing owners retained access to those characters and could continue playing, leveling, and Prestiging them; Behaviour also said necessary bug fixes would continue.

Haddonfield was removed from DBD map rotation for everyone. Existing character ownership does not restore the map. The Strode Realty Key was also retired from the Bloodweb, and other perk/cosmetic naming or availability changes followed the licence transition.

Cross-play and Progression#

The Halloween Xbox US product page listed Xbox cross-platform multiplayer and cross-platform co-op. That is one store capability label—not a complete PC/PS5/Xbox pairing matrix, party-flow test, or account-system description.

DBD’s official cross-play FAQ listed Steam, Microsoft Store, Epic Games Store, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, and Nintendo Switch as participating platforms. DBD also documents cross-progression through a Behaviour Account, subject to its stated platform and content limitations.

FAQ#

Are the two games the same kind of 1v4 game?

They share a one-versus-four team shape, but the objectives differ. Halloween centers resident warning and escort; DBD centers generators, Exit Gates, downs, hooks, and sacrifices.

Which game has a story mode?

Halloween has a six-chapter story with player-controlled Michael. This comparison does not identify an equivalent DBD narrative campaign.

Can I play with bots?

Halloween lists private matches against AI, with full Offline Play scope incomplete here. DBD documents Tutorial Bot Matches and Custom lobbies with up to four Survivor bots.

Which has more characters?

DBD has the larger cumulative directory in the dated snapshot, but its 42 Killer and 53 Survivor nodes are not the same scope as base-package inclusion. Halloween Standard launched with Michael and 10 Civilians.

Can new DBD players still buy Michael Myers?

No. After January 19, 2026 at 11:00 AM ET, new users could no longer purchase or newly unlock The Shape or Laurie.

Do existing DBD owners lose Michael and Laurie?

No. Existing owners retain those characters and can continue playing, leveling, and Prestiging them. Haddonfield’s removal from rotation is a separate global change.

How does progression differ?

Halloween uses role and weapon levels, Prestige, challenges, abilities, executions, and a Civilian Perk Deck. DBD uses Bloodpoints, the Bloodweb, Add-Ons, Offerings, Perks, and builds.

Does Halloween support cross-play?

The Xbox US SKU displayed Xbox cross-platform multiplayer/co-op labels. The retained evidence does not support a complete PC/PS5/Xbox pairing matrix.

Does Halloween have cross-progression?

It was unknown in the checked evidence. That must not be rewritten as “no.” DBD documents cross-progression through a Behaviour Account with limitations.

Which game was cheaper?

In the Xbox US snapshot on September 8, DBD base showed US$29.99+, Halloween Standard US$39.99+, and Halloween Digital Deluxe US$59.99+. This excludes long-term costs and is not a live price check.

Which game is better?

There is no evidence-supported universal winner. Choose by the objective loop, solo mode, content scope, progression system, licence state, platform support, and total cost that matter to you.
